8 year old boy, bedwetting? (10/24/2007 12:29PM)
My son who is 8 year old has the problem of bedwetting at night and also passes bowel movements in his trouser at times during the day.

An 8 yr old boy with a combination of bedwetting at night and “soiling” or stooling in his pants during the day is more complexed than the usual bedwetting at night.

The involuntary deposition of stools in undergarments during the day (called encopresis) may be a complicated GI problem related to either chronic constipation, painful ...

Sudden wetting (06/20/2001 10:36AM)
About three months ago he had a severe ear infection and right as this occured so has his constant bedwetting. It sure seems the recurrence of wetting may be related to the ear infection but it is impossible to prove. No one truly knows what causes primary bedwetting let alone wetting that recurs.

Daughter sleeps too deeply (09/20/2006 03:55PM)
If she doesn`t wet the bed, even after 10-11 hours sleep she still has a hard time waking up in the morning for school.

The bedwetting that you describe is formally called "Sleep Related Enuresis (SRE)" which is usually described as bedwetting occurring during sleep at any time, not just at night. I would also want to be sure that your daughter doesn't snore at night, since obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) may cause SRE in some children.

Bedwetting (01/04/2007 12:40PM)
You are describing a child with what is called sleep-related enuresis, which is involuntary urination during sleep at an age by which volitional control is usually expected i.e. 5 years of age. Secondary enuresis is nighttime urination that redevelops in a child who was previously dry during sleep for at least 3 months. A careful history should be taken for other nighttime symptoms that could signal another sleep disorder that is contributing to the bedwetting, such as snoring, ...

Enuresis (09/10/1998 06:00PM)
Of course, it also creates some difficulty when other children wish to sleep over or vice versa. It is commonly asked because so many children are affected by this. Children with bedwetting are typically very deep sleepers.

Unusual bedwetting (07/21/2008 03:21PM)
Any suggestions or advise (p.s. we have no insurance or regular doctor)

Bed wetting during sleep, also known as sleep enuresis, often has a variety of underlying causes. Medical conditions associated with enuresis include obstructive sleep apnea (repetitive airway closing in sleep), congestive heart failure, diabetes, urinary tract infections, nighttime seizures, depression, severe psychological stress, and dementia.

Adult bedwetting (09/13/2007 09:42AM)

Bed wetting during sleep, also known as sleep enuresis, often has a variety of underlying causes.

If you would like further information about sleep disorders or sleep itself, I recommend the American Academy of Sleep Medicine website. The website Sleep Education.com also can provide consumer-friendly information about sleep disorders.

Sudden enuresis, low specific gravity (06/11/2008 05:36PM)
So I`ve been giving him Unda numbers (homeopathic herbs in an alcohol solution to help with immunity and ear infections), as well as probiotics and rubbing castor oil in his belly at bed time. In general, bedwetting (also termed nocturnal enuresis) that begins after toilet training generally is not related to any birth defect or significant illness, assuming that a urinalysis is normal (which it was in your son's case). Sometimes social issues increase the chance of having enuresis (such as...

Bedwetting solved (03/13/2000 05:24PM)
It may be a sign of our "pill-oriented" society that many parents often prefer to control the problem with a pill rather than use a potentially labor-intensive alarm system that can actually cure the problem. The cure rate of alarm systems is around 60% whereas the cure rate of medicines is only 20%. The chances of a child outgrowing the problem is roughly 15% in one year. What is particularly bothering to me is that health insurance companies will pay for expensive medicines that...

Timeframe for DDAVP effectiveness (09/16/1998 12:59PM)
DDAVP helps in some children in reducing the number of wet nights. The most effective treatment for bedwetting is a special type of night time alarm system. Unfortunately if a child is a deep sleeper, the alarm may not awaken the child.
