IBS Question (12/16/1998 07:07PM) |
| Management of IBS is often difficult, but begins with establishing a good relationship with a physician who has expertise in this condition. Your doc can't cure your IBS, but he can make an accurate diagnosis and exclude other conditions which show up with IBS-type symptoms. They have a nice discussion board as well as publishing a very helpful and readable guide about managing your IBS by Dr Bill Salt. | |

Diagnosed with IBS (04/08/2008 09:44AM) |
| The pain and diarrhea kept getting worse, so I decided to see a doctor. I have actually seen many doctors, and each of them have diagnosed me with IBS. I`ve read many articles about IBS and all of them say fatty foods and lack of sleep can cause IBS. | |

Infections and IBS (01/16/2001 10:13AM) |
| What you describe, a resolution of irritable bowel symptoms, during antibiotic treatment (I assume it was antibiotics that you took for your infections) is not a very common phenomenon. In fact I am not aware of any studies that have used antibiotics to treat IBS and I have never had any of my patients admit to such a response. I would also consider that if your symptoms improve with antibiotics that possibly you have some other GI problem in addition to the IBS. | |

IBS and dicyclomine (04/11/2006 02:57PM) |
| Awhile back, my Dr. gave me some Dicyclomine, not specifically for the IBS, but for something else. I recently realized that when I take one, for example before going out for dinner and drinks with people, a situation that can normally cause an upset stomach and diarrhea for me, my stomach felt solid and not unsettled (and no diarrhea). --on a continuous, as needed basis, in situations I know may cause IBS? | |

IBS Concern (01/13/2003 08:19AM) |
| I have suffered from what I am told is IBS. Although the symptoms of abdominal pain and constipation that you had at age 16 could be consistent with IBS, the severe gastrointestinal illness you had while in the military certainly was some other disease, likely an infection. You might need some blood tests, a stool analysis, and depending on your age some type of endoscopy exam of your colon (large bowel). | |

Irritable Bowel Syndrome? (01/14/2002 08:17AM) |
| I have been diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome. My symptoms include flatulence for 1 to 2 hours after eating and constipation. Thankyou From your description of your symptoms, it sounds like you have irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). IBS is diagnosed by the typical symptoms but also requires some tests (usually blood tests, x-rays, and endoscopy of the colon) to exclude other problems such as colitis, infections, obstruction, etc. Has this been done? | |

Twisted ascending colon discovered (06/08/2006 12:51PM) |
| having had a colonoscopy in Sept 05 I was told my ascending colon was twisted and not clean and instrument could not be inserted to examine this stretch of colon. It is likely the cause of your IBS-like symptoms, including cramping and bloating. Perhaps a barium enema would have some utility in determining the extent of the twist, and whether your "IBS" symptoms are actually due to intermittent volvulus or bascule of the cecum. |
