Stressful situations cause midcycle spotting? (07/07/2008 04:00PM)
My questions are: Could the bleeding be the result of the pap smear and or exam? Could the bleeding be the result of the pap smear combinded with having sex later that evening with the use of a condom and an already sensitive area on the cervix from where the pap smear was taken?

First, a pap smear can irritate the cervix and cause a minimal amount of spotting for a day or so after the exam.

Abnormal pap smear (01/25/2007 11:23AM)
I have a history of abnormal pap smears and the proper following evaluation, then told that there was no real problem. also, does having a history of abnormal pap smears increase my chances of cervical cancer? With proper follow up of an abnormal Pap smear, the chances of an abnormal cervix progressing to cervical cancer is VERY rare.

Abnormal pap & HPV (07/23/2007 01:32PM)

Follow up of LSIL — Colposcopy is recommended for women with low-grade lesions (LSIL) (see "Colposcopy" above).

Treatment of LSIL — There are three options for management of LSIL:

    * Close follow-up with HPV testing after 12 months or repeat Pap smear at six and 12 months.

    * Treatment to remove or destroy the abnormal cells (See "Patient information: Treatment of abnormal Pap smears").

Smear test (08/18/2008 09:48AM)

All women over the age of 18, or at the onset of sexual activity if before age 18, should have a Pap smear. We recommend every year, but if you have three normal Pap smears in three consecutive years, your health care provider may suggest that you could have it every three years, instead of every year. If you are scared, please take a friend or someone to be with you during the procedure--ideally someone who has had Pap smears and isn't afraid.

Normal pap, high-risk HPV positive (04/07/2008 11:45AM)
I have been getting an annual pap smear for the past 8 years. The last two pap smears came up abnormal and I tested positive for high-risk HPV. The most important thing is that you keep up with Pap smears and get a detailed examination of the cervix and biopsy if the Pap is abnormal.

I`m scared that I might have HIV (10/25/2007 03:39PM)

An atypical Pap smear can mean many things. The Pap smear does not screen for HIV or STDs. Atypical cells means the the cells don't look bad enough to be precancerous, but not perfect enough to be normal.

Bleeding following a pap smear (09/10/2007 09:52AM)
I had a pap smear 1 month ago and I have went from brown discharge to spotting to the point as to where I have placed a tampon with alot of blood. What could be causing this and should I be worried It is not typical to have such prolonged bleeding after a Pap smear. You should return to your healthcare provider who performed the Pap smear and have him/her look at the cervix.

Pap smear (07/25/2007 09:29AM)
I had a pap smear at my annual physical. My pap smear came back such that the doctor said we need to repeat the Pap in six months and she thinks it is a result of the polyp that we removed. A pap smear could not only be normal or abnormal, it could also show "atypical cells of unknown significance".

Abnormal periods after pap smear (07/20/2007 10:50AM)

I am 37 years old- and have yearly pap smears. My cycle came about 2 weeks later- 3 days of only spotting and then 2 days of VERY HEAVY flow and bloodclots that really concerned me. A Pap smear can cause bleeding after it is performed, but it shouldn't cause bleeding to be heavy at your next period.

Intercourse after pap smear (02/26/2007 02:32PM)
Can a woman have sex after pap smear exam? Yes, you can have sex after a Pap smear. The slight spotting is normal after a Pap smear as the superficial blood vessels are sometimes disrupted when wiping cells off the cervix.
