Sudden weight gain (04/19/2007 03:30PM)

  • depression
  • insomnia
  • bed-wetting
  • suppression of nerve pain
  • vulvodynia
  • and migraines.

However, the most common causes of sudden weight gain are due to increased food intake and decreased exercise, with ...

Sudden weight gain (10/02/2007 01:03PM)
I have experienced a sudden weight gain in the past two weeks that I can`t explain. I would think it is PMS, but gaining weight two weeks before the event seems a bit excessive. Although and prolonged use of steroids can lead to a condition called Cushing's syndrome which presents with weight gain and moon facies, this rarely happens with Nasacort, which is a nasal steroid.

I take Vicodin (06/15/2006 10:45AM)
If you have experienced weight gain, you may have found taking the drug with food or milk has relieved the gastrointestinal distress that is commonly experienced.   If this food or milk is in addition to what you would normally eat, weight gain might be expected.   If you are unable to identify a reason for weight gain, I encourage you to discuss your situation with your physician.

My daughter (36) can`t lose weight (08/21/2006 01:08PM)
Either preexisting depression can contribute to weight gain, or the weight gain could have led to depression. Seeking out a weight loss program that has a counseling component or doing adjunct counseling will increase weight loss success. This is because as one builds more muscle, their weight may not change, or it may increase because muscle weights more than fat tissue.

Sudden weight gain Clarinex/Nasonex (02/22/2008 06:03PM)

No, she should not stop the new medications, nasonex and clarinex, because it is unlikely they are responsible for her weight gain. Fluctuations in weight, including weight gain, have been reported in people who are depressed. Is her weight gain really 'weight' or is it something else like fluid retention seen with certain health conditions?

Weight gain while on psychiatric medication (02/14/2007 07:29AM)

A recognized side effect of certain psychotropic medications like Seroquel and Depakote is weight gain.

However, even with the best diet/physical activity plans, like you are doing, you can still gain weight or not lose weight. Another strategy is to add drugs that counteract the weight gain (e.g., a medication called Topiramate that suppresses appetite).
