Small Testicle with Small Penis
09/11/2009 |
Question:
My son is 10 years old. He has very small testicles & small penis as compared with his age of children. Is there any wrong with him, if yes then what type of treatment we can safely start?
Answer:
This is a difficult question to answer without performing a physical exam. The appearance of male genitalia is highly variable. The testicles in many 10 year old boys seem small, because they do not grow very much until they start to go through puberty. In addition, sometimes the penis appears small because it is retracted into the fat pad over the pubic bone. This is particularly common in boys who are overweight. I would mention this concern to his pediatrician or family physician and if they have significant concerns, he should be referred to a pediatric urologist.
