Whether or not you get diabetes depends on both family’s  genes as well as lifestyle.

Things that can put you at risk for diabetes:

  • History of diabetes in your family 
  • Age (over 40 years old)
  • Ethnicity (African-Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans, and Asian Americans have higher risk) 
  • Gestational diabetes during pregnancy
