Learn How to do CPR

Cardiac arrest can happen without warning and you cannot always rely on medical personnel to be nearby when one occurs. It is important to know how to perform CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) because time is of the essence when an attack strikes.
Once the heart stops beating, brain death can occur in four to six minutes. Performing CPR provides oxygen to the brain and other vital organs to give a victim the best chance of full recovery.  If family, friends or bystanders do not know CPR, life could be lost while waiting for help.

You can find information on where to be trained by visiting the American Red Cross and the American Heart Association web sites. Both organizations provide local CPR training classes right in your area. You can also ask your physician or healthcare provider for more information about where to be trained in CPR.
