Cerebral atrophy mild nonspecific on MRI
06/18/2007 |
Question:
What is the significance of mild cerebral atrophy on mri result
Answer:
Some degree of atrophy (shrinking) of the brain is seen in all normal individuals with aging. The determination of whether the degree of shrinking is normal or not is mostly dependent upon the severity. There are certain neurologic diseases that lead to significant brain atrophy, such as Alzheimerâs disease. In patients with Alzheimerâs disease, the atrophy is usually described as moderate to severe, or âmore than expectedâ for the patientâs age.
The MRI report does not sound worrisome, but if you have any concerns about your neurologic health, you should discuss this with your doctor.
