Bleeding and Clotting Disorders
Can you have this testing done when you are pregnant? I had a stillbirth in March and I have also had a miscarriage in the past. My doctor wants me to have the testing done and i want to have the testing done as well. I have recently found out that I am expecting again and i was wondering is it safe to have the testing done while pregnant?
The testing for thrombophilias is done via simple blood tests and can be done during pregnancy. There are a couple of them that can be affected by the pregnancy, but the primary one that I believe you will be tested for (lupus anticoagulant) should not be affected by the pregnancy. The doctor that is ordering the tests needs to understand which of the tests may be spuriously low during pregnancy, so as not to come to an incorrect conclusion.
