Bowel movements

02/22/2008

Question:

I am a 60 yr old female. For the last month my stools have been dark green in color and very irregular. I have not had any of the foods I find listed that causes this so I am wondering if this could be a sign of cancer. No pain is associated with this either.

Answer:

At the age of 60, any change on bowel habits that persists beyond a few weeks should be investigated. Dark green stool is not a common symptom of colorectal cancer, but if this is new and different for you, talk to your doctor about this and any other symptoms you may have to see if endoscopic evaluation is necessary.
