Polypectomy and long car trips?

03/20/2008

Question:

I had a polypectomy today during a colonoscopy. It was one polyp and there were no complications during the procedure. I was given an aftercare sheet that said if you had a polypectomy then do not go on long car trips… but i am leaving for a long car trip tomorrow. My doctor said that although he`d prefer I didn`t go that he thought I would be fine, but I would like to know what this is about. Is there something about sitting for long periods of time that is dangerous after polypectomies? or is it something else?

Answer:

There is a risk of bleeding from the polypectomy site for about 10 days after the procedure; this is why he asked you not to travel.
