04/04/2008

Question:

Im a 46 yo white female and for about 3 weeks now ive had pain and swelling behind my left knee. i dont remember injuring myself, and ive never had knee problems

Answer:

Your symptoms could be due to a “Baker’s cyst”. A search within the NetWellness website using this term produces 37 results, for further information about Baker’s cysts. However, since a diagnosis cannot be made over the internet, you should be evaluated by a physician so that a complete history and physical exam can be performed, as well as possibly imaging studies (X-rays, ultrasound, and/or an MRI scan) if necessary to clarify the diagnosis. An accurate diagnosis is, of course, necessary to determine the most appropriate treatment recommendations.
