Question:

Due to Large-Particle High LDL, a CT Coronary Calcium Score test has been suggested to me. However, I`ve read that this test can provide a false-negative result because it doesn`t measure soft plaque. It can also provide a false-positive result in that it can show damage when there is none leading to unecessary, costly, further and invasive testing. Insurance therefore does not cover this test as a screening device/marker. There is also the radiation exposure risk. Doesn`t sound very good to me based on the above. What is your feeling about the usefulness of Calcium Scoring? Has it proven itself to be a useful tool in your experience to rule out or confirm calcium deposits in the arteries–in spite of the negatives mentioned above? Thanks for your help.
