Ovulation Q#1

10/14/2008

Question:

Can a woman have a regular monthly period and not be ovulating every month???

Answer:

If a patient has normal menstrual cycles (occurring regularly between 24-35 days), it is likely that she is ovulating.  Other symptoms of ovulation include breast tenderness, mood swings and/or bloating before your period occurs.  Patients can also do basal body temperature charts to look for an increase in temperature in the middle of the cycle.  Finally, you doctor can check your progesterone level (simple blood test) approximately 1 week prior to your period to check for ovulation.
