Bladder Prolapse Sugery

02/24/2009

Question:

I had bladder prolapse surgery (the sling) about 3 1/2 weeks ago. I could tell within the last few days, something was wrong. I had similar pelvic/bladder symptoms like I had before the surgery. I went back to the doctor. He told me my bladder had prolapsed again on one side (the other side was still intact). I was devastated after putting myself through the surgery and taking off several weeks of work. The doctor and I surmised I must`ve done something wrong, maybe lifted something, etc. Is there anything I can do at this point to try to help this problem, short of repeating the surgery?

Answer:

Although it is too early to do anything surgically, I am afraid if your bladder has dropped again there is no other solution but reconstructive procedure. However if you are not sexually active you might want to ask your doctor about pessary (a device placed in the vagina to hold up the prolapse).
