Reaction to the flu shot

11/23/2009

Question:

I am one of the people in the high risk catagory. I have gotten the flu shot for the pas 5 years with no problems. I got the one for this year 2009 this past Friday. Ever since then I have been itching all over. The injection site got a red raised warm square about 1X2 inches around the injection site that I never got before either. I am wondering if this year there has been some kind of change in the way the flu shot was made like different type of persivitive? This is the regular flu shot mot the H1N1.

Answer:

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that the influenza shots were made this year just like they have been made in past years, only with different antigens. The preservatives have been the same. If you have medical concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact your personal physician.
