Triprolidine-Phenylephrine Syrup

01/05/2010

Question:

Is Recofast [Tripolidine & Phenylephrine Syrup] Safe for a Child with Multicystic Dyslastic?

Answer:

Thank you for contacting NetWellness. Recofast®, to which you are referring, is not available in the United States.

There is a similar combination that uses the antihistamine triprolidine and the decongestant Pseudoephedrine. It is used to treat runny nose, sneezing and itchy watery eyes. It is not recommended to give children under the age of six years of age any decongestants or antihistamine unless under the guidance of a physician. A child with multicystic dysplastic kidney may have decreased kidney function and a decongestant will increase the risk of high blood pressure in the child.

On this site, NetWellness experts try to answer general questions about health. I would refer you to your health professional performing a thorough clinical exam to recommend a safe medication for a child to take. I have no knowledge or experience with this medication. I’m sorry, but I am therefore not qualified to make any statements regarding its use.
