Effects of rusty water on baby

01/05/2010

Question:

Dear Dr. My 3weeks old baby drinks 3 ounces of milk and I prepare it by mixing one ounce of hot water with two ounce`s of warm water. After feeding him, I checked the hot water which i used in his milk, and it had rust in it. I observed him for 48 hours if there is any vomiting, fever, stomach pain etc… But thank God nothing was found. Am very worried if it will effect him in long term. Please advice.

Answer:

Your water source should have a filtering system. If not, please speak with your pediatric health care provider for filtering methods available in your area. In general, I am not a fan of nursery water, however, in this situation using it may be wise.
