Drinking in first 15 weeks of pregnancy

03/09/2010

Question:

Hello. My wife and I are trying to adopt a baby. We have been presented with a situration in which the 23 yr. old birth mother was drinking (not socially… Partying hard on occasion). She suspected she was pregnant at some point, was tested and found out she was at that point 15 weeks along. She has since stopped drinking and is presently keeping all pre-natal appointments and so far it has been a good pregnancy. The only sonogram info. is that it is a boy. Realizing the risk of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, could you give some advice, Pros and cons with this situation? What should we look for or fear? Are there any tests before the birth that would give better information? Thank you for your attention and time.
