Breast Biopsy Side Effects

03/25/2010

Question:

Hello – About 10 weeks ago I had a vacuum biopsy to remove some painful fibrous tissue in my upper/outer region of one of my breasts. The bruising has finally gone away – but I have noticed a few new lumps right above the biopsy site. I don`t believe they were there prior to the procedure. They are slightly sore to the touch as well. Is this most likely scar tissue under the skin? Will it ever go away?

Answer:

The changes you are feeling are most likely related to your biopsy.  The discomfort and scarring can last for some time (months) but will usually get better (and may completely resolve).  There is a chance that some of what you are feeling will not go away, however.
