L.I. Sphincterotomy–Incision Won`t Heal

03/15/2010

Question:

4 months ago, I had LIS performed to heal 2 chronic fissures. The incision was left open. The surgeon has told me that my 2 fissures are closing/closed, but I continue to have pain and bleeding during BMs.

The surgeon told me, and I agree, that this is still wound pain from the original operation. I have absolutely no idea why I cannot heal. The bleeding is getting worse. I am drinking water, taking fiber, and using stool softeners, to no avail. I am under my doctor`s care and she has put me on Diltiazen (the 2 courses of Nitro that I did before surgery didn`t heal me–I have concerns that this won`t work, either), but I wonder what the possible solution to this problem will be. Is surgery an option? I worry about more skin tags, etc. etc. I didn`t have surgery to remove cuts and a skin tag to end up with another cut and skin tag. I am at the end of my rope. I haven`t found much info in the literature (it seems concentrated on fissure heal rate, as well as incontinence). THANK YOU.
