In October of 2009 I was given an xray because I had been out sick with the flu, and on that xray it showed a 2.5×1.4-cm ovoid density on the left lung base. I then had a chest CT and a few bullae noncalcified were found: 1.1×0.8, 0.4×0.5, and in the region of the lingula a 0.5 noncalcified, and suggestion of a 1.2cm enlarged aorticopulmonary, and 0.6cm pleural-based noncalcified nodule is noted posteromedially right lung based. I than had a pet scan and they said it was probably scarring, but when I had my physical a few weeks ago I had another chest xray and now have new nodules. If this was scarring why would I have new nodules? PLEASE advise.

Thank you for your question. Certainly, lung nodules can develop in the setting of an infection. These nodules should then resolve with treatment. The newly identified nodules should be evaluated. Depending on a full history and physical, it is possible to develop a plan for either biopsy or monitoring of these nodules. I would suggest that you discuss with your health care provider.
