7mm nodule right lung

10/27/2010

Question:

I went to the emergency room two weeks ago because of extreme pain and numbness in my right arm. After taking an xray, they determined that I had a pinched nerve, gave me pills and sent me home. A couple of days later, I received a letter saying that a 7mm nodule was detected on my right lung and that I should contact the emergency department immediately for advise. I did, and was told that I should have a CT. Okay, I will be seeing my doctor today who is a pulminologist. I`m very nervous and very worried. My grandfather died of lung cancer. I just hope that I`m not next in line. I have been researching the internet for answers, however, I`m still so afraid.

Answer:

I agree with getting a chest CT.  Most nodules are not cancer.  The risk of cancer depends on your age and whether you have smoked.
