Cures for Cheek Biting

10/21/2010

Question:

Hi, I am a women age 52 and I have been biting my cheeks inside my mouth for years. Now I have major gum issues. Please help me, how can I stop? Is there a cure? Help, it is so embarrassing, my cheeks are sinking as well. Thank you.

Answer:

Unfortunately, there is not an easy fix for this. Most of the time, cheek biting is either a habit that people have or it is from the misalignment of teeth. It sounds like this is more than likely the latter. Evaluation by a dentist may show that orthodontics may be helpful.

52 years is not too old to get braces and could help your problem significantly. Good luck.
