4mm noncalcified pulmonary nodule
01/11/2011 |
Question:
I had a cardiac screen via CT scan. They found a 4mm noncalcified pulmonary nodule in the R lower lobe. I quit smoking 20 yrs ago after smoking a pack a day for 30 yrs. I am a 64 yr old female with no health problems. I take no meds, I am slightly osteopenic and considered obese at 5`/170#. What would your recomendation be as to follow-up? Thank you
Answer:
The chance of a 4mm nodule being cancer, even in a prior smoker, is very low. I would recommend a repeat chest CT in 6 months.
