Simvastatin is both the generic name for and the active ingredient in Zocor®. Whether simvastatin is taken in the form of the brand-name product Zocor® or in the form of a generic equivalent, the side effects are the same. Common side effects of simvastatin include abdominal pain, constipation, nausea and headache. More serious side effects are less common, and include liver damage and muscle and tendon damage. Hair loss is very rare.
