Mixing Motrin and Excedrin PM

06/21/2011

Question:

is it safe to mix motrin600 and excedrin pm?

Answer:

The active ingredients in these products are ibuprofen (Motrin) and acetaminophen with diphenhydramine (Excedrin PM). While ibuprofen and acetaminophen (better known as Tylenol) are different, it is not generally recommended to take them together.

Both work to help with pain relief; in this case for headache pain. One may be taken several hours after the other if it fails to work. Diphenhydramine is better known as Benadryl and can be taken with either medication. The purpose of the diphenhydramine is to help with falling asleep since it causes drowsiness.
