Bad Mouth Smell

06/27/2011

Question:

H i have a friend who has no teeth but has a rotten mouth order

Answer:

There are three major reasons someone without teeth would have bad breath:

1. Inadequate oral hygiene. Yes, they still need to clean their mouths. Tongues are a huge source for foul mouth odors.

2. They have acid reflux. Food and stomach acids come at least part of the way up the esophagus and cause the problem.

3. They have a dry mouth. This goes back to hygiene. If they have a dry mouth, it would be like having “morning breath” all day every day.

Whichever of these is the cause, there is a simple fix. Brush their tongue/cheeks/gums and use mouthwash.
