Susan Wentz, MD, MS
Director, Area Health Education Center
Department of Family Medicine and Community Health
School of Medicine
Case Western Reserve University
Susan Wentz, MD MS directs the Office of Urban Health, Urban Area Health Education Center and NetWellness at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU). Program initiatives provide community-based experiences for medical students and community engagement with the public. Through a broad spectrum of opportunities, medical students are able to nourish core values that brought them to medicine and develop knowledge and abilities for compassionate care. Dr. Wentz has developed collaborative programs joining university and community partners to address important health needs. A core goal is health communication. Programs offer understandable information from the medical center so that people can access and use existing knowledge in a way that is meaningful for them. She is a leader in NetWellness, a non-profit consumer health website, offered jointly by CWRU, the University of Cincinnati and The Ohio State University. One of the first health websites (1995), this non-profit service, features faculty expertise for a world-wide audience. Dr. Wentz is an assistant professor of family medicine at CWRU with secondary appointments in the departments of medicine and epidemiology and biostatistics. She received her MD degree and residency education at the University of Michigan and her MS degree as a Robert Wood Johnson family medicine fellow at CWRU. She has studied the history of science and medical education through CWRU’s History of Technology and Science Program.
