SAGGING SCROTUM

05/31/2005

Question:

I was wondering why my srotum (bag) seems to be bothering me more as I age. I am 76 and I find that I have to continually rearrange my scrotum so I can sit comfortably. After hauling it back up higher I can feel the relief and I am all right until I get up, move around, and then sit down again. Then after I sit a while I have to rearrange my crotum again to be comfy. I have no symptoms of any disease and my bag and balls are of normal size. I have never had any operations down there except for a vascectomy about 40 years ago. May I guess and say that as we age it all “goes south” as they say.Is this true of my scrotum too? It just hangs lower now and gets in the way more now? Jim

Answer:

This is not an uncommon problem in that there is relaxation of the scrotal wall muscles as one ages.  I have no specific solutions to the problem but many men find it helpful to wear supportive underwear instead of loosely fitting boxer shorts.

There is no specific medications or surgical procedures to improve the problem.

I hope my suggestion is helpful to you.
