Red, sore bump near vagina

01/25/2006

Question:

I have a red, sore bump in between my butt cheeks right beside my vagina and I`m wondering if I should be concerned or just wait and see if it goes away? I`ve never had sex so it isn`t anything sexually transmitted. It isn`t itchy, just sore. It seems to be getting a little bit more sore to the touch each day. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Answer:

There are many possible explanations for your bump.  It could be an abscess, or a Bartholins gland cyst, either of which could be painful. You should see your doctor to have it evaluated.
