Lumps in my veins

06/05/2007

Question:

I just all of a sudden noticed 4-5 lumps in one of my veins that is in between my elbow and shoulder. They only were visible when I was lifting up a heavy bag, then went away when I put the bag down. I just saw this for the first time ever, and don`t know if they are some kind of clots, cancer, etc… Some explanation would be great.

Thanks

Answer:

Lumps and bumps appearing transiently in veins after lifting something heavy are not unusual and show areas where the valves in the veins have ballooned out from the extra blood in your arm from the heavy load. This is not associated with cancer or blood clots.
