Intramucosal Lymphoid Aggregates12/19/2007 |
I recently had a colonoscopy and received my biopsy results which all 7 biopsies were normal. Upon reviewing the report I noticed that one description said "Segments of colonic mucosa with intramucosal lymphoid aggregates, no pathologic abnormality identified." This was the only one that mentioned the "intramucosal lymphoid aggregates". What is this? When I looked it up online I could not find much about what that meant. One site said it was a precursor to MALT Lymphomas. Is this true????? Should I be concerned?
This would be extremely unusual in the colon and likely to be of no significance. However, as this is not a completely normal exam, you should follow up with your primary care physician as well as with your gastroenterologist on the results of the test.
