Asthma

Asthma in children

08/19/2008

Question:

My son has mild asthma triggered by cold wind. What would be the dosage of grapeseed extract, magnesuim and fish oil as complementary medications should I give him together with his usual medications? He is 6 yrs old.Thank you

Answer:

There are no well performed studies that have looked at the efficacy of grapeseed extract, magnesium or fish oil for asthma in children. More importantly, it is unclear what doses might be harmful to children, and what doses might interfere with medications that HAVE been proven to be safe and effective for this age group. I can therefore not provide any recommendations for this type of therapy - or tell you how risky it is.
