Test Result Concerns After Kidney and Pancreas Transplant

05/08/2009

Question:

I had a kidney and pancreas transplant 2 years ago. I was told that my creatinine was 9.3 last week and it was too high. What are the normal values? Thank you.

Answer:

A normal serum creatinine concentration in a healthy person with two kidneys is about 1.0 mg/dl. Transplant patients with single kidneys often have slightly higher values. However a value of 9.3 mg/ml is markedly elevated. If this is a new finding you should contact your transplant center right away.
