12/16/2009

Question:

Hi..I`ve been diagnosed TB inactive 6 year a go. I`m done with my 6 month treatments, but the scar still remain on my left lung.Do I need take any medicine to clear that scars? A Doctor in China tells to consume medicine that I took 6 year a go all over again, Will it help?

Answer:

Typically, if tuberculosis has left a scar on your lung after successful treatment, you would not need to take any additional medications, and if you did take more treatment, it will not make the scar disappear. However, if you have symptoms such as a prolonged cough, fever, night sweats, or weight loss, and your doctor thinks you may have a relapse of tuberculosis, it would be very important for your health to get additional medications to treat the tuberculosis. You should go back to your physician and ask him or her if your tuberculosis is inactive with a scar, of if they thought that you needed to take more medications for active tuberculosis.
