Medium Thin Stools With Gas

03/18/2011

Question:

For the past 2 months my stools have gone form normal large size and consistency, to small soft stools accompanied with gas. They are thinner but not pencil thin. They always occur upon waking in the morning around 5am. I take coumadin and had a normal colonscopy in 2009. I eat oatmeal daily and quite a lot of fruits. Is this a cause for concern? I take probiotics as needed for occasional constipation also. In the past the probiotic has produced large stools of normal consistency.

Answer:

If you have not had a colonoscopy recently, one should be scheduled. Anytime someone has change in caliber of their stool, this usually warrants a colonoscopy.
