Chlamydia (07/27/2007 12:51PM) |
| The reason he was treated automatically, without waiting for culture results, is that we always treat both partners when one has been diagnosed with chlamydia. As to your question about being able to have children, normally if the infection is caught before it turns into "pelvic inflammatory disease" (extreme pain in the pelvis associated with a fever), the tubes are normally not infected. RE: std (06/05/2005 06:30PM) |
| HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus), for example, is a sexually transmitted disease that you can't just "get rid of." Fortunately, many sexually transmitted diseases are treatable, but the treatment depends on what infection is causing the disease. There are diseases characterized by urethritis and cervicitis, such as Chlamydial infections, Gonococcal infections, and diseases characterized by vaginal discharge, such as Bacterial Vaginosis, Trichomoniasis, and Vulvovaginal Candidiasis, as well... | |

Vaginal lumps (12/26/2006 10:57AM) |
| Vulvovaginitis is an infection due to an overgrowth of yeast (Candida) that normally causes lots of itching and irritation, but usually not bumps. Condyloma (genital warts, due to the human papilloma virus, HPV) on the other hand, usually appear as soft, moist, pink, or flesh-colored swellings, usually in the genital area. A good web site to read more about various conditions is that of the Centers for Diseases Control (CDC): www.cdc.gov/std. | |

Symptoms experienced after intercourse (05/07/2007 10:36AM) |
| After being told that it could have been a dormant STD by so many i began taking Valtrex. As for your current situation with vaginal discharge and odor after intercourse, I can't tell whether or not it is an STD without an exam. When the alkaline (low acidity) of the semen comes into contact with the vaginal discharge, it causes the release of chemicals that cause odor. | |

Light period (05/01/2007 11:07AM) |
| I just had my period, I spotted for 1 day before, had a very light period for 1 day and then spotted the next day. I am more concerned now about an STD than about a baby. With an STD you might have vaginal discharge, itching, odor, pelvic pain and irregular or increased bleeding. | |

HPV question (10/26/2007 03:34PM) |
| Well, I was taking the Gardasil shots and I was on my second round when I asked for a complete STD testing. I know it probably won`t help me anymore, but shouldn`t I be taking something for the HPV? http://www.cdc.gov/std/HPV/hpv-vaccine.pdf I strongly encourage you to set up an appointment with your doctor to discuss the report and clarify some of the questions you have regarding the Pap smear. | |

Could STD go away on own after many years (02/14/2007 04:14PM) |
| Also I cheated once durign this time, got symptoms of STD`s , pain and burning during sex, and urination. I don`t know all they tested for so it makes me wonder if I might have had sTD that causes sterility, PID. Testing for infertility (X-ray test to determine tubal blockage) will be very expensive and not covered by the free clinic. | |

Desperate - do you think I am sterile??? (02/27/2007 04:34PM) |
1) Can you have an STD, unknowingle for many years, then get tested for STD`s years after having STD, and have it no longer show up in tests?? It usually is the other way - a woman gets infected, doesn't know she's infected, and years later finally gets tested and it comes up positive (e.g., herpes, human papillomavirus, chlamydia). Cervical cancer (01/02/2007 09:50AM) |
| I saw on tv that cervital cancer was caused by HPV and that it is an STD. Thanks Although we don’t know ALL of the causes of cervical cancer, some forms of HPV, an STD, are strongly associated with cervical cancer. HPV is so strongly associated with cervical cancer that we now consider it a “cause”. |
