Medications for Muscle Pain
12/31/2008 |
Question:
What medications are recommended for muscle pain? I have tried Vicodin, Norco and Oxy with no relief. The muscle pain involves my whole body. Also, is there anything OTC that could work just as well as a prescription medication?
Answer:
You may be suffering from fibromyalgia, a benign diffuse muscle ache condition, but you should always confirm a diagnosis by an examination with a physician. There are two medications currently FDA approved for the treatment of Fibromyalgia: Lyrica and Cymbalta. Tramadol, a pain medicine, can be substituted for Cymbalta. Nonetheless, the cornerstone of treatment for fibromyalgia is low impact exercise (such as swimming) at least 5 times a week.
