Hard Vein Lump from IV

06/24/2011

Question:

A couple of months ago I had and IV on the back of my hand just below my wrist. There is a hard lump that appears to be on/in the vein at the IV site. Is this a very dangerous blood clot or just a side effect of IV? Should I have it taken care of?

Answer:

This sometimes happens after an IV and usually is self-limited, but if it worsens, then you should seek a doctor’s advice.
